C25K

Hello, bloggers!!! What is up in the world of blogging right now? I have slacked a lot this week...been reading everyone's blogs but have not been in the mood to post!

Well, since I told y'all a few weeks back that I am starting to try and eat healthier/make better choices, I thought I would keep you up to speed with what I began yesterday. I started C25K. Anyone ever heard of this? C25K stands for Couch 2 5K. This running plan basically takes people who don't run from sitting on the couch to running a 5K in 9 weeks.

I heard about this plan a long time ago and never did it. As dumb as it sounds, I thought it sounded so stupid that it could possibly take someone 9 weeks to run 3 miles. The funny thing about the rude statement I just made is that I have never been able to run a full mile in my entire life. I'm not kidding. Seriously....I can't run a mile. Actually, if I'm being 100% honest, I can't even run half of a mile without stopping. Thus, I finally decided it is TIME for me to start C25K. I figured....what the heck?

On Friday, I made the decision that no matter what my plans were Saturday, no matter what came up, no matter how I felt, no matter what we decided to do...I was going to do workout 1 of C25K. The first workout consists of a 5 minute warm up walk, then you alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of running for 20 minutes, and you end with a 5 minute cool down walk. I woke up early and convinced my brother to do it with me! I am so thankful and so glad he went with me, because I seriously wouldn't have finished without him. I definitely would've just walked for 30 minutes and called it quits.

So, how did it feel? To be honest, I was embarrassed and discouraged at how far I have to come. I was dying after about 45 seconds of running just waiting on the 60 seconds to be up. Whew...how embarrasing. But, I'm actually really thankful for this plan because it's DOABLE. Anyone can commit to 3 workouts a week that don't exceed 30 minutes....seriously. So, I'm done with the excuses and I'm sticking to it.

When I got home, I decided to do it again in the afternoon. Mostly because it was super windy outside. I felt alright yesterday afternoon. I don't know why I felt motivated, but I decided to hit it while I was feeling motivated because I know with me there are days that I am just downright NOT gonna wanna hit the pavement.

Today, I went out there and did it again. I was a little disappointed that my miles were actually 3 seconds longer today then they were yesterday, but I think it's because my legs are feeling really sore. Plus, I went twice yesterday. So, with that said. I am going to hit it again tomorrow and take Tuesday off because I have bible study.

Also, just so you know in case you are wanting to give this a try, iMap my run is an AMAZING app. It maps your route through GPS so you can see exactly how far you went and so you can map your route in the event that you want to run it again. Also, it tracks your pace and gives you a summary of your workout once your complete. I love this app because you can go out of it and change your songs, go to other apps, etc. and it will still track your workout until you tell it to. Also, the free C25K app is what I used as well and what I love about this app is that it actually says out loud "start walking" and "start jogging" so you don't have to constantly look at your time. Again, what I'm loving about this is that I was able to play my music, hear when to start running/jogging, and still map my route via GPS through iMap my run!

So, here goes nothin on the running venture! I must say, this does not come naturally for me...this is hard work. I don't have the lung capacity or leg strength yet which supposedly makes this joyful and fun, but I'm sick of gaining weight and feeling like a blob of poop. So, if I can do it!! YoU cAn Do It!!!!

Sorry for the blurry picture, but every time I got discouraged, I just kept repeating this.....amazing how it motivated me to PRESS ON!!

Enjoy your Sunday evening, and have a great week :)
PS-If anyone has any good tunes with some phat beats, please share. I'm making a playlist....my brother usually makes these for me, but I'm open to PHAT BEATS, PEEPS!

Love that you are starting this. I am TRYING to start up again and let me tell you went out to run one mile and it was tough. The hills don't help either. I am going to look into this plan. Thank you for it!! Good luck!!!

Go girl!!! I have seen this before and need to print it out! I've done one 5K in my life and it was a few years ago. i'd probably keel over if I tried to run a mile right now! Now that daylight savings is here I guess there is no excuse!

I'm sad to say I too did the C25K and quit after week 5. I seriously hate running. Maybe I'll try it again, especially with that app so I don't have to do it on a tredmill this time.
